SEO checklist for a new business website

A new website does not rank by itself. Google needs to find it, understand it and trust it. These are the basics to get right before you spend money on ads or links.

1. Get the site indexed

  • Verify the site in Google Search Console
  • Submit your sitemap.xml
  • Check the Pages report for anything marked as not indexed
  • Make sure robots.txt does not block important pages

2. One page per main service

Each important service deserves its own page with its own title. A single page that lists everything is hard for Google to match to specific searches. Put the main keyword in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph, and write naturally.

3. Titles and descriptions

  • Keep titles under about 60 characters and lead with the service
  • Write a description of 140 to 160 characters that explains the benefit
  • Never copy the same title on two pages

4. Speed and mobile

Most visitors come from phones. Compress images, avoid heavy sliders and test the site on a real phone. Google's PageSpeed Insights shows what slows a page down.

5. Internal links

Link related pages to each other with clear words, for example from a blog post about keywords to your SEO service page. This helps visitors and helps Google understand which pages matter.

6. Consistent business details

Use the same business name, address and phone number on your website, Google Business Profile and social profiles. For local searches this consistency is a strong trust signal.

7. Keep going

SEO is not a one-time job. Publish helpful pages regularly, fix the errors Search Console reports, and check which searches bring visitors so you can build on what works.
